About Palace:
London-based group Palace are a self-described alternative blues-rock group with a relaxed, atmospheric sound. Their music has an introspective feel. It’s melodic and dynamic in its languid movement and the lyrics express personal emotions with a universal emotional spectrum. The 2016 album So Long Forever was lively by Palace’s standards, but their more exploratory approach came to the forefront on 2019’s Life After, and 2022’s Shoals, written during a difficult time for the band, introduced a glossier production that fit their trademark approach.
Palace was formed in September 2012 by lead singer and guitarist Leo Wyndham, lead guitarist Rupert Turner, bassist Will Dorey, and drummer Matt Hodges. After working up their sound in their North London practice space, the band struck a deal with the indie label Beatnik Creative, which issued their debut recording in 2014, a five-song EP titled Lost in the Night. The disc was well received in the press, and it caught the attention of Jamie T., who invited Palace to open a major concert appearance in London in 2015. A second EP, Chase the Light, appeared in 2015, and Beats 1 DJ Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens both showed their support by giving the record airplay. Fiction Records, the British label best known for their long association with the Cure, signed Palace, reissuing Chase the Light as the group worked on their first full-length LP.
