The Tenth Annual Portland Mardi Gras Ball
The gloomy days of winter will once again be banished for one glorious night when Portland’s only Mardi Gras krewe and social club, the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus, hosts its 10th ANNUAL MARDI GRAS BALL. This lively, spirited and authentic Mardi Gras celebration will be held Saturday, February 22, at the Wonder Ballroom. This year’s theme is “Magical Mystery Krewe.”
Who will flaunt their costumes and dance across the stage for the costume contest? Who will be the Ball’s new King and Queen? There will be a full bar, king cake, beads and throws, and all manner of lagniappe (that little something extra!). Costumes are encouraged, though not required, and prizes will be awarded.
Performers include Lucky Beaucoup, Too Loose Cajun Zydeco Band, Northwest Bone Gang, and the Magical Mystery Revue Band.
Portland’s annual Mardi Gras Ball has been listed by the New Orleans Times-Picayune as one of the Top-5 most authentic Mardi Gras celebrations in the United States outside Louisiana. It’s a joyous mass of festive revelry and full costume finery – crazy, macabre, funny, groovy, psychedelic, beautiful… In short, it’s a magical extravaganza.
A portion of ticket sales benefit two similiar non-profits in Louisiana and Oregon.
Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday parade: In addition to the Ball, Portlanders are also invited to join the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus on Fat Tuesday, February 25th, for the annual free, family-friendly Mardi Gras parade down Mississippi Avenue.
The Ball is 21 and over only.
